Conjunctions And Modularity In Language Analysis Procedures
نویسنده
چکیده
The further enrichment of natural language systems depends in part on finding ways of "factoring" the effects of various linguistic phenomena, so that these systems can be partitioned into modules of comprehensible size and structure. Coordinate conjunction has a substantial impact on all aspects of syntactic analysis -constituent structure, grammatical constraints, and transformations. If the rules of syntactic analysis were directly expanded to accomodate conjunction, their size would increase severalfold. We describe below the mechanisms we have used to localize the effect of conjunction in our natural language analyzer, so that most of the rules of our grammar need not explicitly take conjunction into account.

Mining Overlapping Communities in Real-world Networks Based on Extended Modularity Gain
Detecting communities plays a vital role in studying group level patterns of a social network and it can be helpful in developing several recommendation systems such as movie recommendation, book recommendation, friend recommendation and so on. Most of the community detection algorithms can detect disjoint communities only, but in the real time scenario, a node can be a member of more than one ...
متن کاملInvestigating the Use of Paratactic and Hypotactic Conjunctions among Iranian Pre-university Students
In an attempt to dispel the persisting fallacy that an individual’s grammar knowledge is indicative of the way they put this knowledge into practice, this study seeks to highlight the inconsistency which resides between one’s competence and performance in the domain of conjunctions. It aims to shed light on the discrepancy which lies between the knowledge and production of conjunctions. The res...
متن کاملThe use of conjunctions by children with typical language development.
PURPOSE To investigate the use of conjunctions in the spontaneous speech of three years old children with typical language development, who live in Santa Maria - RS. METHODS 45 children, aged 3:0;0 - 3:11;29 (years:months;days) from the database of the Center for the Study of Language and Speech (CELF) participated of this study. The spontaneous speech of each child was transcribed and follow...
متن کاملClause Boundary Detection in Transcribed Spoken Language
We argue that finite clauses should be regarded as the basic unit in syntactic analysis of spoken language, and describe a method that automatically detects clause boundaries by classifying coordinating conjunctions in spoken language discourse as belonging to either the syntactic level or the discourse level of analysis. The method exploits the special role that coordinating conjunctions play ...
متن کاملMaximum Maintainability of Complex Systems via Modulation Based on DSM and Module Layout.Case Study:Laser Range Finder
The present paper aims to investigate the effects of modularity and the layout of subsystems and parts of a complex system on its maintainability. For this purpose, four objective functions have been considered simultaneously: I) maximizing the level of accordance between system design and optimum modularity design,II) maximizing the level of accessibility and the maintenance space required,III...
